I was raised in Detroit Michigan during the 60s and 70s. I developed an interest in playing music at age 9. I started out with horns and then quickly moved to the snare drum. Eventually I was able to put together a drum kit one piece at a time, as I "earned" them. I played in our basement for hours every day. When I was 14, I started a garage band with neighborhood buddies. We played every chance we could, trying to imitate The Beatles, The Allman Brothers, Genesis, Deep Purple, Motown and everything in between.
I also played with all of the school bands. I marched with my high school band and was lucky enough to perform in Europe in my senior year, giving me a wider interest in music. In the late 90s I returned to my high school as percussion and drumline instructor for 6 years, which was a very rewarding experience.
Through the years I have played all types of music in various bands. The biggest music influences for me have been big band, jazz/blues fusion, prog rock and southern rock - basically all music!
